Digital Preservation Coalition

The Digital Preservation Coalition is delighted to welcome the Humanities Advanced Technology and Information Institute (HATII) at Glasgow University as its newest associate member.

'Since its foundation, HATII has had a strong commitment to digital preservation and digitization. It has been involved in a large number of collaborative initiatives such as the Digital Curation Centre, the PLANETS project, Digital Preservation Europe and Erpanet.

'HATII sees new opportunities to frame its research through DPC membership as well as an opportunity to influence policy and practice', explained Ann Gow, Associate Director.  'Long term access to digital resources is an aspiration across the public and private sectors.  It requires a diverse range of experience if it is to be achieved

HATII is delighted to join the DPC as an associate member.  We recognise the value of partnership in this critical area and look forward to interdisciplinary collaboration with the DPC'

William Kilbride of the DPC also welcomed the news saying 'HATII is a leader in the field of digital preservation and with a considerable portfolio of research and development.  Their membership will help sustain and develop new partnerships and it will undoubtedly strengthen the coalition.  HATII is our fourth new member this year: the growth of the coalition underlines the demand for digital preservation advice and a heightened sense of the need to work together.

HATII staff and students can now participate directly in a range of DPC events and activities including:

• Designed to Last: preserving Computer Aided Design, British Library, 16th July 2010 (http://www.dpconline.org/details/16-computer-aided-design.html?xref=16)
• Decoding the Digital: a joint workshop with the British Library Preservation Advisory Centre (http://www.dpconline.org/details/18-decoding-the-digital.html?xref=18)

They will be eligible for grants from the DPC Leadership Programme, will have priority access to DPC publications and can now join the internal DPC-discussion list.
