As a Principal Software Engineer, you will work as part of the Application Development team on the British Library's exciting new and existing platforms, both designing and implementing new systems and also developing enhancements to both our customer facing web based systems and backend systems.

For the first two years you will be working on the new Public Lending Rights project to integrate and re-write the existing PLR applications using the latest development methodologies and tools, aligning it to the British Library Technical Infrastructure standards.

Under the PLR system in the UK, payment is made from government funds to authors, illustrators and other contributors whose books are borrowed from public libraries.  Payments are made annually on the basis of loans data collected from a sample of public libraries in the UK.  The Irish Public Lending Remuneration (PLR) system covers all libraries in the Republic of Ireland and operates in a similar way but using differing components.

As a Principal Engineer you will be heavily involved in using your experience in shaping the tools, direction and infrastructure required to deliver the project.  Your skills, ideas and experience will be invaluable in the delivery of this system.
