The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is launching a series of focus groups throughout October and November to talk to businesses about their digital preservation needs.

With a greater focus on the business side of digital curation activities than ever this year and events such as ‘Writing a Digital Preservation Business Case’ and ‘Cost Modelling,’ as well as involvement in the 4C ‘Collaboration to Clarify the Costs of Curation’ and TIMBUS (Timeless Business) Projects, the DPC is keen to address an issue which is not only felt by museums, libraries and archives.

“Whether you are managing legal and confidential financial or personal data to comply with legislation, or historic technical drawings to enable long term and robust product performance, every business has a digital content management responsibility,” explains Sarah Norris, the DPC’s Project Officer for the 4C Project.

“We would really like to talk to any business which produces and manages its own digital data, which must be the majority of commercial entities operating today!” she adds. The outcomes of the focus groups will be used to inform the coalition’s activities, research and direction in support of digital preservation for industry.

As a thank you for taking part, participants will be offered a complimentary place at a DPC Briefing Day of their choice, subject to availability.

The not-for-profit DPC is an advocate and catalyst for digital preservation for all organisations and businesses across the UK and Ireland. The coalition ensures its members can continue to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through knowledge exchange, capacity building, assurance, advocacy and partnership.

Its primary objective is raising awareness of the importance of the preservation of digital material and the attendant strategic, cultural and technological issues our vision is to ‘make our digital memory accessible tomorrow.’
