The National Library of New Zealand is looking for an experienced Digital Preservation Manager to lead its digital preservation programme.

Applicants from anywhere in the world will be considered.

You will lead a team of 7 staff within the Preservation Research & Consultancy team and be responsible for:

  • leading the strategic and operational management of the Library's digital preservation programme to develop a world class approach to the collecting and long term preservation of digital collections for the Library
  • championing digital preservation issues in the Department as well as nationally and internationally
  • contributing to the development of the strategic direction of the National Library with particular emphasis on the Library's digital collection building, preservation and access roles
  • working closely with digital preservation stakeholders in the National Library and Archives New Zealand, related teams within the department and vendors engaged in the digital preservation programme.

This is the primary operational management role within Preservation Research & Consultancy with responsibility for the overall day-to-day operations of the NDHA environment.

The National Library of New Zealand sits within the Information and Knowledge Services branch, the Department's centre for information management comprising Archives New Zealand and Government Information Services as well as the National Library of New Zealand.

You will have substantial practical experience in digital preservation theory and practice with particular emphasis on digital collections in libraries, museums, archives or special collections.

You will be an experienced people manager and ideally you will have a tertiary qualification in information technology, computer science or information science or its equivalent.
